Pinch me! This can't be real, our book is here!

Today was filled with tying up loose ends. And did you ever notice how a mere handful of "finishing touches" will end up taking an entire day?! For us it always goes this way. We went to bed last night and said, "ah, tomorrow's work will go fast. It's just the finishing touches." Now fast forward to 6pm and we're just getting finished. But man are we excited to have things wrapped up!
We were also excited to get a midday delivery from World Market. Just couldn't wait to tear into the boxes filled with lots of much needed kitchen stuff...dinner plates, salad bowls, mini cutting boards, that sort of thing. But when Aaron brought the boxes in there was an unexpected manilla envelope on top.
Ok...the second I spied the return address that envelope didn't stand a chance. I ripped it open and was immediately teary eyed. OUR BOOK!! I wasn't even able to flip through it. I just stood there holding it, staring at the cover, saying oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. Aaron grabbed it and unlike me he was actually able to open it up...so that's when I finally got to see the interior! It just looks and feels so amazing! Way more perfect than I ever expected.

I simply love the finish of the cover and the pages...like a silky buttery matte. And the colors are perfectly true...like exact matches to the original artwork. And we couldn't believe how good the aqua pages in the inside cover looked...just blank paper...but the color is so perfect. And seeing our names on the spine and the way our collagey cover wraps around...just everything...wow!
Instantly our minds went back to how much went into the making of this book. The amount of home repairs and stuff we needed to do post Hurricane Sandy...just to get the house in shape enough for us to have a clean dry place to write this book. That was our only concern really...we needed somewhere to make these projects! So that's why the studio was the first room we tackled while the rest of the house remained in shambles.

Jeez, there were so many photos to shoot! Every project is 100% step by step...we never really jump ahead like you see on cooking TV shows where all of the sudden you see this amazing dish of food when three second ago it was some ingredients on a countertop. Nope...we show you step A, step B, step C, and so on...no skipping forward. The exact supplies are laid out, the instructions are very descriptive, and we've got a pic to illustrate every detail. Jeez, I ain't gonna lie...it was a lotta work!! But seriously...it definitely was a ton of fun...and we know it will be for you guys. That's a promise!

We did a little flip through video on Instagram. The max time available on Instavid is 15 seconds, so it's just a glance really. (click the little triangle to play)

Oh, and we shared this photo from our book on Instagram and Facebook the other day, so I figured I'd include it here on the occasion of our Author Copy arriving. Love this project! And that happy couple just so happens to be Aaron's grandparents.

I realize that we have to wait til November for the book to hit shelves, but I'm so grateful for the arrival of this Author Copy today. I needed the spirit boost. And me and Aar are so thankful to everyone who has pre-ordered a copy. It makes us feel so good...and I'm sure our publisher likes it plenty...so keep it up you darlings!

Thanks so so much for all of the love and support guys! It means so much to us!

The Humble Weekender

What has happened to the humble beach shack?

Where I live most of the simple weekenders from the 1950's - 1970's are being torn down
and replaced by enormous, architecturally designed, ultra modern coastal homes.
They have all the bells and whistles including
theatre rooms, lifts and infinity edge swimming pools.
To be honest, it makes me a bit sad that beach houses have got so fancy and complicated.
I relish happy childhood memories of holidays spent in
basic beach rentals with second hand furniture and sandy floors
and there wasn't a care in the world!
