Here's a little taste of Aussie style. Now there are some amazing architects and great architecture in Australia. There are lots of books and magazines dedicated to high end architecture and this is typically my line of work - exciting, ground breaking architecture and big, open ended budgets but this is not my personal taste or style. I love working on these projects but I get just as excited over the quintessential 'Aussie beach shack' - a beach house that embodies the carefree, casual way of life that Australians have a reputation for.

Barefoot, wetsuits hanging on the line, wet towels drying on the deck, surfboards strewn around the house, sandy hair, sunburnt faces and lots of hilarity. Low key, no fuss, 'she'll be right', 'no worries' are the key words we live by. This smart but simple beach house in Byron Bay captures the very essence of what makes a great Aussie beach house. Characteristically they will have an abundance of natural light, simple furnishings, natural finishes, lots of decks, doors that open up to let the outside in, lots of outdoor entertaining spaces and a pool will always make you that little bit more popular!
