Dior Resort Report

I am loving this Dior Summer Cruise Collection ....just perfect for chic summer entertaining, a holiday to the South of France or perhaps the Italian Riviera! Dior has it covered from perfectly fitted casual shorts and stylish sun hats to stunning evening gowns - perfect for a balmy summer's night on the yacht with the twinkling lights of Monte Carlo in the background. The boat shed background adds a pop of colour and gives the collection a sense of fun. I would absolutely love that aqua Dior bag for my summer wardrobe.

Art Journal & Scrapbook elements!

Hurricane Irene was a gal with some major mood swings. Her effects on the east coast ranged from mild to devastating. It was predicted that our area would be wrecked...so much so that even my friends in England and Australia caught the word and were praying for our safety. A lot of people in our neck of the woods evacuated but we stuck around, hoping that the hype would turn out to be hype. We were lucky. Irene wasn't all that bad to us. Aaron even walked the little pups twice during the early stages of the storm. We were prepared though, candles...tons of snacks... orders to work on and some fun new projects to keep us busy...we were just really hoping for the power to stay on because doing artwork by candlelight just isn't possible. Turns out, the power outage didn't happen til we were in bed anyway...and it was back on by the time we got up. And when we looked outside after Irene departed we were thrilled to see that our neighborhood was pretty free of damage. The Asbury Park boardwalk and neighboring towns weren't as lucky.

Anyway, what we worked on during the storm were these super cute pages of original artwork...ready made for your Art Journal or Scrapbook. They're actually stickers! And we did them in black & white so that you can fill them in with whatever colors you wish and use whatever medium you please...paint, markers, etc...The page you see here features Allie & Amy...a flag banner...roses...a vintage bunny...cupcake...a cake...and an adorable lace scallop. It's in the shop now! We are so psyched about them and we can't wait to see how everyone customizes them and uses them in their layouts, and spreads ! (We'd love to see pics!)

We are already at work on sheets 2, 3 and 4...so stay tuned! :) If you'd like to add some Everyday is a Holiday elements to your art journal or scrapbook, pop over to the shop to pick up your very own!

I guess that's it for now. Aaron and I send lots of love to all of you who emailed and messaged us on facebook about staying safe. Your prayers must have worked! :) Thanks again for stopping by today! xoxo, Jenny

Get Creative With Driftwood

Posted by om 0 comments

I love the earthy, faded grey and brown tones of driftwood. I love the mix of the smooth and rough surface textures and the twisted , gnarly forms that Mother Nature has created. It's a perfect for getting creative with and lends itself to lots of great ideas for the home...think chairs, bedheads, lamp bases, key holders, clothing racks - the possibilities are only limited by our imaginations!  Here are a few clever ideas that will add character and personality to any beach house.

The American Dream

Posted by om 0 comments

White shingled, wooden houses with porches, Adirondack chairs, lighthouses, gray slate roofs, American flags, and boardwalks leading to the beach. This is what comes to mind when I think of  New England Style. I have never been to the Hamptons or Cape Cod but they are firmly planted in my mind and there is a longing to go there one day and experience the American dream. That part of the world sums up the very essence of the good life to me - the sea, family and friends, dogs, good books, beautiful scenery, perfect houses, good food and wine.... one day I'll get there!

Tropical Fiesta

Posted by om 0 comments

We are getting a spate of warm, sunny Spring-like days and my thoughts are already turning to summer, the beach and outdoor entertaining. I am looking forward to a mini holiday in Queensland with some warm tropical weather just to get an early taste of summer. It's the perfect place for heavenly cocktails, freshly caught seafood and tropical fruits. I can see myself sitting on the deck of a laid back restaurant overlooking the water sipping on a Long Island Iced Tea and tucking into a plate of grilled prawns with a mango and avocado salsa...yum!

White, Blue and Ultra Sleek

House Of  The Week

I am a bit of an old fashioned girl at heart and have visions off me in my white weatherboard seaside cottage living within walking distance of the sea. But having said that, my work as an interior designer is generally very modern. Architects and clients come to me with their clean lines and cutting edge plans which call for a ultra modern, sleek response. Therefore I have developed a love and appreciation of all forms of design and architecture. This house appeals because of the stunning water's edge location; the light filled, bright open spaces and the simple, crisp, clean palette of white and bright blue. The light timber floorboards give it warmth and the extensive use of glass plays on the light and reflections. The over sized model boat is a lot of fun and is a great conversation point.
My Verdict : Simply Stunning!

A Weekend of The Go

We're a pretty sporty family so we're always on the go. I think it comes with the territory - if you live on the coast you are surrounded by great stuff to do. We have the choice of several beaches, a river and National Parks galore to keep us amused. We can go horse-riding on the beach, kayaking, canoeing and surfing all without too much effort. The new trend is stand up paddle boards so everyone's been keen to give that a go. The kids swim and boogie board all year round despite the icy cold water in winter. We love our beach walks and long bush walks so it's hard to sit still or be indoors when there's so much going on! What's your favourite beach activity?

Beware of “Healthified” Versions of Junk Food

Posted by om 0 comments
Because of the big push from the government to make Americans healthier and prevent obesity, food manufacturers and restaurants have started reformulating old recipes and creating new “healthy” products to sell. Most of the changes have been positive; for example, decreasing the amount of hydrogenated oils (trans fat) and sodium used to prepare certain foods. However, many food manufacturers have taken advantage of consumers by tricking them into thinking that certain junk foods are healthy by fortifying them with certain nutrients. They know most people like sugar, fat, and sodium, so why not fortify foods high in those components with nutrients that are lacking in the American diet and market them as “healthy”?

Junk + fortified with nutrients= recipe for successful sales

Kellogg's Pop-Tarts 20% Daily Value Fiber - Frosted Strawberry, 8 count box (Pack of 6)The most popular additive to a food to make it sound healthy is fiber. Think about it, food companies are now selling brownies with fiber, high-sugar cereals that contain fiber, ice cream with fiber, candy with fiber, etc. If someone sees that an otherwise junk food is high in fiber they might mistakenly assume it is made with whole grains and other nutritious ingredients. On the contrary, most of these products are made with refined grains and sugars and just have added inulin or chicory root extract as the fiber. So basically, it’s like eating a piece of birthday cake and taking a Metamucil and thinking that’s healthy. Similarly, beverage companies sell high-sugar carbonated beverages but fortify them with 1000% of your daily value of certain vitamins and minerals so they can be marketed as a nutritional supplement… and therefore, “healthy.”

I have met dozens of people that eat a diet low in fiber and most major vitamins and minerals (i.e: low in fruits, veggies, whole grains, dairy), but tell me they take a multivitamin and Metamucil everyday- so they’re okay, right? Some people believe if they take a calcium pill, they don’t need to eat any foods that naturally high in calcium. Basically, they may eat a 2,000 calorie diet full of junk, but take supplements to make up for it. While supplements can make up for certain lacking nutrients, I, and most health professionals, always recommend obtaining all your nutrients from real food. If you consume >2,000 calories it is easy to get all your nutrients from natural food sources. At calorie levels <2,000, it is possible, but usually takes lots of planning and analysis (which can be done by an R.D.) to ensure you are getting all your nutrients in.
Fiber One Chewy Bars, Oats & Chocolate, 5-Count Boxes (Pack of 12)
The majority of reputable studies on possible health effects of certain nutrients are done by epidemiological, or population, studies. Yes, fiber is known to benefit colon health and may help to prevent diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and other costly diseases. ). However, the populations studied have high fiber diets because they eat natural foods with naturally occurring fiber (whole grains, vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds). The nutrients and phyto-chemicals found in natural foods are what keep these people in good health, not just the actual fiber.

MY RECOMMENDATION: Don’t fall into the marketing scams. A food is not “healthy” if it is made with refined grains, added sugars, and a bunch of ingredients you can’t pronounce…. even if it has added fiber, or is fortified with loads of vitamins and minerals. Stick with foods that you know are good for you: 100% whole grain bread, nature’s dessert: fruit, vegetables, low-fat dairy, soy, beans, nuts, seeds, etc.

CLOSING THOUGHT: EAT REAL/NATURAL FOOD!

 Bohemian Chic

This amazing house belongs to Spanish fashion model and her fiance. Tucked away on the tiny Spanish Island of 'Formentera' it's only a short ferry ride from the party island of Ibiza. Much quieter than Ibizia it attracts a smart and stylish crowd. This lovely rustic beach house embodies the very essence of beach side living : cosy, comfy and simple. Just the right ingredients to chill out and escape from a busy city life! The textured finishes with the splash of colour are perfect for a relaxed weekend with friends. All one needs is a big floppy hat to ward of the sun, a bikini and a sundress!
