Inspiration For My Beach House

This Avalon (Sydney) beach house discovered over at Desire Empire is full of great ideas and inspiration for my new beach house. I am busily scouring blogs, pinterest and my hordes of magazines formulating ideas. However, I have come across two major obstacles a ridiculously tight budget and a very particular (fussy) husband!

Being a surfer, 3D designer and a landscape architect - he has very particular ideas about what he likes - so far his brief is :- nothing rustic, industrial, vintage, shabby chic, asian or ethnic .... mmm tricky - that's a mix of everything I had planned! That leaves me with modern and 'surfey'. Anyway, we have come to a very happy compromise ~ modern sofas combined with white washed floorboards and bleached rustic furniture that is a mix of antique Chinese and provincial. We will hang one or two of his vintage surfboards for that extra 'beachy' feel. I think it's a really fresh, new look which I'm very excited about. We spent the day shopping last weekend and we saw a lot of this chalked, bleached look in my favourite coastal shops so we are both feeling pretty confident that it will look amazing.

Sadly, new furniture for the bedrooms and studio / office will have to wait 'til further down the track due to budget blowouts. The 3 bathrooms will also have to wait until next summer so I will just have to be patient. The good news is that I still get my new kitchen, walk-in pantry and fabulous new furniture for the living, entry and dining.

Here's my inspiration ~

Our chair design, love the white washed floorboards and the window seat

Like the muted, sandy colour palette and the sisal rug

Love the rustic furniture

Love the chalky palette, painted ceilings and rafters

Love the open shelves on the vanity unit

We already have this teak setting

This is the style of the furniture I have selected ~
