Beach Ride

Posted by om 0 comments

These look like perfect weekend activities ...
hope you have a lovely weekend!

I have just booked a horse ride along the beach.
The ride is a couple of hours long,
starting off on a meandering trail through the bush
and finishing off with a canter along the beach

It'll be so much fun - I can't wait!

Friday Favorites

Posted by om 0 comments

Busy Friday! But we just paused to make a deeeelish dinner...will blog the recipe soon...and now we are working on getting our second wind for the evening writing, photo editing, and box packing. Hopefully we can squeeze in a long dog walk sometime before dark. For now, before we get back to the grind, let me share my latest Friday Favorites!

To begin with...this painting by Artist Elizabeth Mayville, which is part of her "Top Knot" series. Love it!!

Oh gosh... this! The Travelling Tea Room Emporium by Becky Hood Photography. You must click over to view this image larger!  Oh how I wish this would roll up here on our street...since there's no time for us to break away...and we could set down the art supplies, run outside and sample the sweets and treats.
I absolutely love carnivals and fairs. There are always a couple vendors who have something really special, though admittedly they are never as good as the above. I just love the here today, gone tomorrow aspect...and how the vendors do their best to bring as much attention-getting flash and color as possible.

This duo know as Tumbleweeds Handcraft. They are the makers of the Original wood veneer and stone Sunglasses. They totally rule! I follow them on instagram...and you don't have to spy on these guys for too long to recognize that they are workhorses. They make these by hand!! Me and Aar have seen plenty of those 3am work nights and we know what it takes. I just Love seeing such an incredible product, made by peeps with stellar style! This is wearable art at it's finest.

This Triple Berry Curd  has got me thinking of Summertime. Oh jeez, a couple summer's ago me and Aar had a Summer of Scones. Every morning we took a drive down the shore to a different local cafe type place to sample their respective iced coffee and scones. We actually wrote down our thoughts on a score card. Some days we drove really far just to find a place we had yet to try. But yeah, the curd...jeez, imagine it atop a vanilla or lemon scone!!

I read a very interesting little article in the New York Times Magazine about the Ferris Wheel. They are one of my fave visuals as far as civilized landscapes go. You'll be surprised by the heartbreaking tale regarding the creator of this whimsical wheel.

Ok, I think I'm gonna grab a carrot muffin before I get back to the daily function.
Hope the rest of your Friday is Fab!
xo Jenny!

Nutrition and Cancer: Eating Well with Eating Challenges

From surgery to chemotherapy to radiation, cancer treatments are harsh and aggressive. They are designed to kill hostile cancer cells. In the process, they also damage healthy cells. This produces unpleasant side effects that can cause eating problems.

Good nutrition is extremely important for cancer patients, whether they are facing a mesothelioma diagnosis or breast cancer surgery. Cancer nutrition looks different than traditional healthy eating, though. People with cancer have different dietary needs, and their meals contain other than normal, healthy foods.

For most people, healthy eating means fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and limited meat, dairy, fats, sugars and salt. People with cancer eat to keep up their strength. It is the only way to deal treatment symptoms. However, since this includes eating problems, good nutrition is challenging for most cancer patients.

Common Eating Problems During Cancer Treatment

Appetite loss is a common problem during cancer treatment. Nausea is another common side effect. They make it nearly impossible to eat enough food to stay healthy. Vomiting and diarrhea complicate things because they cause dehydration.

Some cancer treatments cause dry mouth, sore mouth, sore throat and swallowing problems. This can make it hard to eat certain types of food. Most patients are also concerned with weight maintenance since treatments can cause severe weight loss or gain.

Common Nutritional Needs During Cancer Treatment

Cancer patients require extra calories and protein. This applies to people with breast cancer, mesothelioma symptomsand other complications. They may need to add more eggs, milk and cheese to their diets. Unfortunately, lactose intolerance is a common treatment symptoms, so dairy foods are not always advisable.

People with mouth and throat problems often benefit from gravies, sauces and other soft, wet foods. Those who struggle with diarrhea may need to exchange their fiber-rich foods for low-fiber alternatives. Dietitians and nutritionists can help cancer patients make appropriate changes to their diets.

Vitamins, Minerals and Other Nutritional Supplements

Some cancer patients may require supplementation to get the nutrients they need for good health. Taking vitamins, minerals, herbs and other supplements are a common practice in holistic medicine. No studies prove that these products prevent, cure or treat cancer. However, they may be good complementary therapy for some patients.

Herbs and nutritional supplements may interact with cancer drugs and prescription medications. In some cases, they may actually change the way certain cancer treatments work. Therefore, they should only be used under doctor supervision.
