Bleached Timber - Mini Trend

Inspiration comes in the strangest forms.

I read a restaurant review in Vogue for a funky new Chinese cafe in Melbourne called David's (pictured above) so I called in for a lunchtime feed of dumplings.Surprisingly, this laneway eatery provided me with the inspiration for my new beach house. I fell in love with the rustic, bleached Chinese antiques piled up behind the bar, I loved the white washed floors and the painted timber lining boards. Strangely the whole vibe of this cosmopolitan cafe works equally well for my 1940's white weatherboard beach house.

Mini trend ~ bleached, rustic furniture

In my design travels I stumbled across 'Maison Est', an amazing East meets West furniture shop. Not your typical Asian furniture store this one has a European feel - an eclectic mix of French provincial and Chinese antiques. The typical lacquered look synomous with Asian furniture has been stripped and bleached giving the timber a raw and rustic appearance - the perfect solution for my beach house decor scheme. Despite the fact I thought I was being totally original in my discovery with this new coastal style I had created, I have since seen this look featuring in design mags and blogs proving that this is a hot new global trend.
