 Ship Shape

Australian Antiques dealers Zoe Hoare found her port of call in a 1748 New York cottage crafted from a salvaged schooner. She has filled the space with a more-is-more array of her favourite booty to date. In this photo: The all-white painted mezzanine.

Living Room

The living area's sea-themed tableau includes an antique washing table, Victorian yacht, a stuffed seagull, and 19th-century art-student landscapes. Zoe stripped the antique French chair's tattered upholstery to reveal the fine construction beneath.

Living Room Seating

Slipcovered in white denim, a trio of sofas offers ample seating. Zoe painted her dark, 19th-century Chinese coffee table to better reflect light and the mood.

Kitchen Vignette

Zoe's organizing trick? "Go around with a bin," she urges, "and free yourself of everything you don't love or need." Here a simple shelf supports a beautiful and functional arrangement of cooking essentials.

Bedroom Seating

This 1940s Gustavian bench turns a corner of the master bedroom into a lovely  reading nook. Bright Idea: Released from kitchen duty, French tea towels get a new life upholstering scatter cushions.

Dining Room

Sourced at a local salvage yard, the cast-iron stove heats up the dining corner. The Swedish-style side chairs, wrought-iron chandelier, and mirror all hail form Zoe's antique shop.

Blue-and-White Collection

A single antiques fair yielded a windowsill's worth of French terra-cotta pitchers, glazed with sprightly stripes and spots. Zoe fashioned the blue cushion covers from Swedish textiles and the lighter pair from French tea towels.

Kitchen Corner

The kitchen's garden entrance is home to two 1950s iron stools, a stenciled Quaker Oats advertisement and an eclectic assortment of blue and white English china, platters and pitchers.

Guest Bedroom

The guest room was outfitted with an iron bed, a 1860s painted blanket box, a zinc clock and her treasured 19th-century Bastille Day coat. Bright Idea: Show off your favourite pieces on a Shaker-style peg rack with a shelf.
